Ford recently decided that it will use Google’s operating system for its vehicles. The automaker is all set to use Android for its infotainment systems in millions of cars. The integration of Android with cars will make them smarter. The users can use Google Assistant to regulate the climate settings of the cars. Subsequent updates can be introduced to find out and fix maintenance issues with the cars before they get out of hand. However, the deal with Google does not imply that it won’t support devices from its competitors. Ford’s new system will still be compatible with Apple CarPlay and there will also be an option to use Amazon Alexa if someone prefers to use it.

As of now, there is no information on which vehicles, in particular, will use the Android Operating System starting 2023. Ford has only stated that there will be millions of vehicles around the globe that would use it- except for China which has banned Google. In addition to the operating system deal, Ford has also signed up for Google Cloud in a six-year partnership. Ford believes that Google is the right cloud provider to connect its vehicle services. They are also committed to creating a team called Upshift that will be tasked to find out new areas of innovation. It will have employees from both companies who will work together.

Team Upshift will try to use the talents of its employees to push the boundaries of the automobile Industry. They also plan to improve consumer experience using AI and other data-driven opportunities. This partnership has increased the influence of Google even more. The tech giant is already working with some of the biggest automakers like General Motors, Volvo, and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The present shift in the approach of these companies is interesting, considering there has been a sentiment to keep big tech companies at arm’s length. But it seems that automakers are rethinking their strategy.

Earlier it was believed that by letting tech-giant tap into the customer data stream, these companies can pose an existential threat for themself. But Ford has come up with a refreshing approach as it hopes to increase its sales by working with Google. There are millions of consumers who are waiting for a change in the in-car experience. They would love to have more technological advancements in cars. Ford is trying to do the same with its current deal with Google.

If experts are believed we are likely to see great innovations in the in-car experience of the future Ford cars. There are still some uncertainties that Ford and Google will have to work together to resolve. Their partnership might turn out to be the beginning of a new era in the automobile industry.
