Tying these different styles of knots in your neck tie is often a difficult process and men often choose to go with the simplest form of knot for their neckties. Outlined below are the steps needed to tie some of the most common necktie knots.

The Windsor Knot

This is the knot most commonly used for silk ties or neckties that are made from a slender material. When tied correctly this necktie knot looks triangular in appearance and of course it is symmetrical. Neckties tied with this knot look perfect and this makes all neckties look even more attractive. To tie this knot in your neckties you start by bringing the wide end of thenecktie over top of the thin end and then continue by running the wide end of the tie up through the center where the ends overlap. To continue making your Windsor knot you will then bring the wide end of the tie out over the front of the overlap,How To Tie A Necktie Articles making sure that you are directing it towards the left side of your body. The next step is to bring the wide end of the necktie around the back of the thin end. You will now start to make the second side of your Windsor knot by bringing the wide end up and looping it down through the center again. Continue by bring the longer end around the front of the thin end of the necktie, towards the right. It then has to be looped around and up through the back once again. When this is done, pull tight and you will have a perfect Windsor knot in your tie.

Bow Tie

Many people think that this is the hardest knot to tie but in fact it is one of the easiest. When you start to tie your bow you must make sure that one end is slightly longer than the other and then you take the longer end and cross it over the short end bringing it up through the middle. Now with the short end you are going to create a horizontal loop by folding the short end. When you have created a horizontal loop you will bring the long portion of the tie down over the loop, pulling the horizontal loop forward you will need to push the longer end through the hole that you have created by pulling the loop forward. Do not push it all the way through. You should now have two horizontal loops formed and to straighten the tie you simply pull on the horizontal loops.

Four in the Hand

This knot is not even and looks slightly asymmetrical. The steps involved in making this tie are the same as tying the Windsor knot. You start by bringing the wide end of the tie over the narrow end. Then bring the wide end around the back of the narrow end. Swing the wide end of the tie back around the front to the left and then up through the center again. You will need to hold the front of the knot loosely so you are able to slide the wide end down through the hole that you created. Holding the narrow end, pull on the wide end of the tie to tighten the knot.

The Half Windsor

This knot looks like the traditional Windsor knot except that it will appear to be slightly larger. This knot is used when the tie is made from a thicker material.  You will follow the steps needed to tie the Windsor knot but you will not loop it around the center of the tie twice. You only have to do this once. Then bring the long wide end of the tie around the front and holding the front of the knot loose bring the wide end down through the knot. Pull to tighten.
