WWE action figures are figurines that are based on the programming of World Wrestling entertainment. The WWE figures are mostly figurines. The popular action figures are those based on John Cena, Triple H, Jeff Hardy, among others.
The first WWE action figures were produced in 1984 by LJN who were then contracted by WWE to produce action figures taking the character of the star wrestlers. They were quite simple and were made of solid rubber. They were quite accurate to their real life counterparts. The only problem was that being made of a solid block of rubber they did not have any articulation.
Hasbro took over in 1990 after LJN closed down. Hasbro made their WWE action figures out of plastic, although they did not get fully articulated. This was a small achievement but a crucial one. Jakks pacific corporation took over in 1996. When Jakks took over they began with the superstars' line, the "WWE Titantron Live figures" that had an in built microchip. The microchip was designed to trigger the particular superstar's theme song to play and the trash talk on stage. The microchip was triggered by the surrounding for instance if the action figure was on stage the trash talk would be triggered, while the theme song was triggered as the figurine entered the arena. Jakks later produced the WWE Classic Superstars line. The line showcased the legends and alumni of WWE. Later on in 2006 Jakks started producing WWE action figures with 27 points of articulation. These figures were known as WWE deluxe aggression. Mattel took over in 2010 and continued with Jakk Pacifics ruthless aggression, only that they called it the "basic" line. They also had the "elite "line which was similar to Jakk Pacifics Deluxe Aggression.
Mattel later released the line of series of figures known as the "Entrance Greats". They are basic WWE action figures but incredibly detailed including the gear worn by a superstar at a particular wrestle mania. In 2010 Mattel also released the WWE legends line. These are very elite in style and come with accessories, though they have been criticized as barely resembling the actual wrestlers head scans and the accessories actually limit movement.
WWE action figures have come a long way to their present well articulated and lifelike appearance. With the growth of other action figures they have borrowed ideas from them and greatly improved, which could be considered as a positive development only.
