Booking last minute ski deals? For expert skiers there are some great resorts in the French Alps. Here are a few tips.
Booking last minute ski deals is a great way to enjoy a bargain holiday. If you're planning to wait until the last minute, you'll need to make sure you find a suitable resort to keep an eye on. If you and your group are all expert skiers, you'll probably want to head somewhere known for its powder and advanced runs. Here are a few of the best resorts for experienced skiers in the Alps.
Tignes
Tignes is well known for its expert runs and snow reliability, so when you are booking last minute ski deals you can rely on the fact that the snow is likely to be good. The runs are very challenging and there will not be too many beginners here to get in your way. There are some nursery slopes at Tignes le Lac but, in general, this is a resort for more experienced skiers.
It may not be as pretty as some of the other places in the Alps, but this won't bother you if you are coming for the skiing and nothing else. In addition, the accommodation is on the pistes, or near by, making it very convenient to ski-in ski-out. You can also connect to Val d'Isere easily from here, and between the two resorts there are 300 kilometres of pistes. There is also lots of powder due to the high-altitude, making it fantastic for off-piste opportunities.
Chamonix
Chamonix is another great option for last minute ski deals for advanced skiers. It is actually a very versatile resort, catering for both beginners and more experienced skiers, and the scenery is simply stunning. Located on the border of Switzerland and Italy, the terrain is very varied, with some very steep and also some glacier runs. You will find lots of off-piste skiing here, which is accessible using the lift system. One of the best places for powder is the Grands Montets, but there are many more less-visited runs as well.
Zermatt
Zermatt has plenty of north facing runs and you will find a host of off-piste opportunities here. This is one of the highest resorts on the continent and the views of the mountains are wonderful. It is a great resort for advanced skiers and you will be able to get out into the wilderness to enjoy the off-piste runs and glacier runs. You can also go on the Haute Route for a classic off-piste experience. This route connects Zermatt with Chamonix and provides the opportunity to get right out into the backcountry.
La Grave
This excellent French resort is nearly entirely off-piste. The north-facing slopes are high, providing great opportunities for powder. There are some short runs on the glacier, but apart from that it is all off-piste - there is always a good chance of powder on the upper mountain.
Even if you're booking last minute ski deals, it doesn't mean you should settle for anything less than exactly what you want. These resorts above, and many others in the French Alps, are perfectly suited to the more experienced skier.
