My girlfriend is obsessed with The Biggest Loser.  No,The Biggest Losers Fast Weight Loss Secret Articles I'm not referring to myself!  I'm referring to the very popular television show in which people compete to lose as much weight as possible, as quickly as they can.

I don't think that she has missed a single episode.  She loves to see the dramatic weight loss progress that the contestants make each week.  She is so passionate about the show, she convinced me to watch it with her each week. I must admit, the show is quite entertaining and I do enjoy watching it with her.

Although the show is quite entertaining I'm honestly not that impressed with their weight loss. Throughout the show contestants are worked to the bone all day encouraged to lose the most weight possible in order to win but ideally losing weight so quickly isn't a great idea; this is why:

A common misconception is that weight loss and fat loss are the same thing.  Iif only it were that easy, right? Usually the weight loss achieved by these people is actually just losses in water and lean muscle mass. This clearly is not true fat loss.

Even though the scale says you are dropping weight, if you are losing lean muscle mass you are actually slowing down your metabolism.  This is the worst thing you can do because the key to permanent fat loss is a fast metabolism.

Because of this, I have actually found that a rapid reduction in bodyweight correlates very highly with a significantly greater chance of weight regain, and thus, long term weight loss failure.

But everyone wants to lose weight quickly, right?  No.  We don't want to just lose WEIGHT, we want to lose FAT.  And of course we want you to lose FAT as quickly as possible, but this must be done carefully, correctly and scientifically, or else you are doomed to regain whatever fat you might manage to lose.

It's easy to lose excess fat when your exercise routine is executed correctly; when this is the case you will maintain lean muscle mass which is a critical component of long term fat loss.

When you have a sufficient amount of lean muscle your metabolic rate will remain high which will result in permanent fat loss. I don't care how much weight you are capable of losing, if you're not losing FAT you're not losing anything!

Take a look at what long term maintainers are doing to keep the fat off for good.  You're probably wondering, "What's the secret to their success? Read on to learn all about it!

First, successful maintainers engage in a regular exercise program.  This exercise regimen should consist of resistance training in addition to cardiovascular training.

Also big losers and successful maintainers have different diet habits. The fad diet is usually popular amongst the big losers combined with little or no exercise. Maintainers on the other hand, will follow a healthy and well structured diet.

Another difference between big losers and maintainers is their accountability.  This accountability can be to a training partner, a support group or a trainer.

Accountability is probably the most avoided weight loss component out there.  I have found this to be one of the most beneficial weight loss methods and can make a huge difference between getting fat and losing fat.

Additionally, maintainers continue to measure their food quantity and at the very least eyeball portion size.

4 Methods for Fast and Permanent Fat Loss!

1. Become more active everyday! Daily exercise is crucial for weight maintenance and weight loss.

2. To lose fat and maintain the fat loss it's important to incorporate resistance training to your exercise program.

3. Count calories and measure your portion sizes.  If this seems like too much of an inconvenience for you, simply measure your food portions once to get an idea of your ideal portion size, and then eyeball your food quantities thereafter.

4. Focus on losing fat and not just weight!  Measuring your body fat percentage is the best way to ensure that your weight loss is actually coming from fat and not lean muscle.
