The second generation MINI has new engines and an interior remodeled. The launch includes MINI Cooper models (120 hp) and MINI Cooper S (175 hp). The MINI One basic version also comes in a new turbo diesel model,BMW Mini Cabrio Review and Specifications  Articles which is the economic alternative.

The new Cooper and Cooper S engines have new four-cylinder 1.6 petrol engines with two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, chain-driven. Most of its features are offered only in higher segments. Now, the engines have an oil pump according to the flow, and a water pump that can reduce fuel consumption.

The MINI Cooper has a naturally aspirated engine of 120 hp at 6,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 160 Nm at 4,250 rpm The engine of the MINI Cabrio is a turbocharged direct injection gasoline. The overhead is obtained by a twin-scroll compressor, powered by the flow of exhaust gases from two cylinders at once. Responds to very low revs, which is almost totally eliminated the so-called "turbo gap". Maximum torque is 240 Nm available at 1,600 laps, and the maximum power is 175 hp at 5,500 rpm

Slight increase in exterior dimensions (length 60 mm increase). Typical ratios are maintained and aesthetic features, such as the hexagonal lattice grille, large headlights, the diagonal slit between the bonnet, side flashers (weld reminiscent of the classic Mini had in the same place) and vertical taillights.

It is lighter and wider. Vents, located at the outer ends more accentuate the horizontal orientation of the board. The decorative elements are more numerous, were added to 16 chrome rings surrounding the instruments and air vents.

The main instrument now contains all the functions of entertainment and, optionally, the navigation, as well as analog display of speed. The metal knobs as buttons are located in the center console and in the ceiling. The ignition key is an electronic unit with transmitter signals and a start / stop button.
Both versions, comes standard with a manual gearbox with six gears. Option is available, in both cases, an automatic gearbox, also with six gears. In the case of automatic transmission, uses a converter clutch which is closed immediately after start up the car.

The MINI Cooper S is available with an optional mechanical locking differential (Super LSD), which anticipates the drive-wheel slip, engine power diverted to the wheel with better traction.

T he adjustment of the new MINI is particularly sporty. The electromechanical power steering EPAS (Electric Power Assisted Steering), produces a natural feeling when turning the steering wheel. The swing arm rear axle center is unique in the segment of small cars with front wheel drive.

There are two settings to choose from. The basic setting of the new MINI Cooper is more comfortable than the previous model. The MINI Cooper S has a sportier chassis clearly. Both models are available with an optional sport chassis, suspension and damping that includes tougher.

The Ventilated brake discs are 280 mm in diameter (294 in the case of the MINI Cooper S) on the front wheels while the rear discs are 259 millimeters. The brake system of both variants includes ABS, electronic distribution system braking force EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) system and cornering brake control CBC (Cornering Brake Control).

Care system to start uphill "Hill Assist", combined with the DSC system is also new to the MINI. This system automatically brakes preventing the car from rolling back when starting uphill.
