Earth is full of different chemicals,Increasing Demand of Lanthanum - A Rare Metal Articles gases and elements proving to be important aspects of life. Without the existence of these crucial gases and elements, it might be difficult for the human being to survive on the earth. They are used in various ways in our life from fueling today’s transportation system to the construction of buildings. There are lot of gases, metals and chemicals inside the crust of the earth. Rare earth metals are one of the elements that are very useful in the modern world.

Many minerals and energy companies devotedly mine and extract these really useful rare earth elements. Any minerals and energy company for the mining of these metals must have set its own mining site and different production unit to produce these metals after their extraction from different impurities as rare earth metals are found in oxides that make it critical to extract them from the oxides. They were named in the 18th and 19th centuries when they were first extracted from the rare minerals.

One of the rare earth metals that is considered as important metal is known as Lanthanum. It was discovered in 1893. Though, lanthanum is known to be a rare earth element but it is found more than the lead and silver present on this earth. It is the second most abundant element on the earth. Previously, this metal was not in that much use. Many minerals and energy companies have started mining it and extracting it from its oxides as the metal is being used in many commercial uses.

The third generation car – Toyota Prius hybrid is one of the examples of modern manufacturing that carries about 10 pounds of lanthanum. Most of us don’t know that we use this metal in our day to day life. The car battery of is known as "nickel-metal hydride. In the manufacturing of battery these days, nickel-lanthanum hydride battery proves to be a power-packed battery. It is twice effective than the lead-acid battery.

Keeping in mind the growing need of rare earth metals especially lanthanum in varieties of manufacturing and other rare metals such as Yttrium, Neodymium, Cerium, Lutetium etc. and their uses in x-ray screen, petroleum products, lasers, motion picture projectors, lamps, magnets and nuclear fission, Minerals and Energy Companies have started taking initiatives to make the production up to the mark. Many mining and purifying units have been established to keep the pace requirement of these metals.
