Genetically engineered salmon is a type of fish that has been genetically modified with the goal of making them grow faster and producing more meat. There are many advantages to these types of fishes, such as increased production levels and better food security. However, according to seafood exporters in Sri Lanka, there are also disadvantages associated with this type of fish including ethical concerns from people who oppose GMO products.

What is genetically engineered salmon?

Genetically engineered salmon can be defined as a type of fish that has been genetically modified with the goal of making them grow faster and produce more meat. This is done by adding genes from other types of fish in order to increase the size and growth rate of this type of fish.

According to fish exporters in Sri Lanka,What Is Genetically Engineered Salmon, And Is It Good For Human Consumption? Articles one disadvantage to genetically engineered salmon has been shown through studies that indicate they may not be suitable for human consumption due to high accumulation levels of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyl). This can lead to adverse health effects in humans including cancer, diabetes, infertility issues, immune system problems among many others throughout life stages such as birth defects during fetal development or hormone related diseases during puberty.

Why would you want to eat it?

The reason that people would want to eat genetically engineered salmon is that they can grow at a faster rate than traditional farmed salmon, hence making salmon fishing more sustainable.

However, there are many disadvantages of eating this type of fish which include allergies and health issues caused by the added growth hormone used in these types of fish in addition to the disadvantages listed above.

The taste factor of genetically engineered salmon is also another reason why people would choose to eat it, since the taste may not be for everyone.

Is the consumption of genetically engineered salmon safe for humans?

With all the disadvantages listed for eating genetically engineered salmon, many people, including the best seafood exporters in South Asia, are concerned about whether or not this type of fish is safe for human consumption. Some people believe that they are, but others would disagree and say it needs more testing before being deemed fit to eat by humans.

People have been debating this topic of whether genetically engineered salmon is good for human consumption since 2009 when the FDA decided to approve them as a food source in America. Another factor that also plays into the debate are safety concerns such as allergies, as well as the ethical concerns over what it means for a human to eat an animal that was specially altered in order to be bigger and have more flesh. However, those who support this kind of food source say that now is the time because if we don't start making these changes soon then there won't be any fish left for future generations which would mean a loss out on a good protein source.

Genetically engineered salmon has been around since 1989 so why are people just figuring this out now? The main reason being most consumers were never aware they had even eaten genetically modified foods until 2015 when President Obama signed into law certain requirements regarding labeling all GMO's also known as Genetically Modified Organisms.

How can I avoid eating genetically engineered salmon if I don't want to?

As any fish export company in Sri Lanka or elsewhere will tell you, the choice is ultimately up to each individual whether or not to eat genetically engineered salmon (or ay other type of fish or meat). For people who are health conscious they may want to avoid eating it for numerous reasons, while some more risk-taking individuals may even enjoy the challenge of trying something new.

What is the future outlook for GE Salmon in human consumption and why should we be concerned about this issue?

The future of genetically engineered food sources is unknown at this point. While some people are concerned about the health risks they may pose, others suggest that genetically engineered food sources is a more sustainable way to produce larger quantities of meat for human consumption. This is especially debated these days because of waning food reserves globally. However, it is important to be aware of the possible negative impacts genetically altered food sources may have on human health. For example, some studies suggest that they will impact how our bodies process essential nutrients and vitamins. More research needs to be done in this field before anyone can confidently say whether or not GE foods are healthy for humans.

The major concern with genetically engineered salmon is that the gene it contains can be passed to other species of fish which could lead to a potential threat for humans consuming those fish. So far, this has not been shown in any studies and GE Salmon is still considered safe for human consumption. However, there are many debates over whether or not we should consume these products at all given how little information we have about their safety profile. For now, you may want to consider buying from companies who label food as being "GMO free" if you're concerned about your health when making purchasing decisions based on what is best for yourself and your family.
