Once you have mastered the art of dealing with people, you have climbed the first ladder towards better management. Everyone on your team is different; you have to deal with

them differently. It is your responsibility to make sure that there are no interpersonal problems. Some need to be encouraged; others need to be reprimanded occasionally; and

all of them need to be motivated to work together successfully.

Know your Job Well

You are the leader; you should be clear about what you are doing. Only then will you be able to guide others. Hence, it is important that you know what you are doing and how

others should follow your guidelines. It is a simple fact of life; if you are not clear about your goals, the people who are working with you will not be clear about what

their roles and responsibilities. Clarity about the means and the aims is the hallmark of a good manager.

Encourage and Motivate

Be positive with your employees; negative comments can only bring the team down. Encourage them and motivate them; motivating your team is one of your major tasks. Often,

processes go wrong, companies do badly, and at times like these, it is not easy to encourage. However, one should remember that it is the attitude that will determine the

response of the people around.

Manage Money Well

The economics of the business are your responsibility; at least, some aspects of it are within your control. You may not have the control to manage the money, but you must

understand it. Do not leave it to the accountants and the finance guys, especially if you are running a small business. Good management means that you should have some

knowledge of how the money is being spent and being generated.

Think Out of the Box

Every manager should be able to innovate and be open to new ideas. You should be knowledgeable about all the new activities in your field and should be able to incorporate

new techniques wherever needed. Do not be rigid in your views; the world is constantly changing and you have to move with the times.
