If you are on earlier versions: 9.0,Great Plains Consultant Chicago, San Diego Newsflash: version upgrade Articles 8.0, 7.5, 7.0, 6.0, 5.5, 5.0, 4.0 or Great Plains Accounting for DOS or Windows – you should consider version upgrade, if you are looking into the future of your business.  In this small publication we would like to give you managerial level highlights on the upgrade process and scenarios:

1.       Direct update to 10.0.  Could be done from version 9.0 and 8.0.  Please, note that you should not use GP 10.0 CD only for launching upgrade process – you must apply recent service pack for GP 10.0 and only then launch update.  The process is pretty straightforward, however there are few known issues, where you may expect SQL data repair.  In our opinion Great Plains upgrade should be done by Great Plains technical consultant

2.       Earlier version upgrade to GP 10.0.  If you are on Microsoft SQL Server Dynamics version, then you should expect upgrade to take two or more steps, depending on the age of your current version.  The challenge of upgrading from very old version is the fact, that Microsoft doesn’t support old versions and you need somebody who is really experienced as GP consultant

3.       Pervasive SQL and Ctree versions upgrade.  If you are on GP 7.5 or earlier, you might be on Ctree or Btrieve (predecessor of Pervasive SQL 2000).  In this case you need special migration to Microsoft SQL Server first.  Migration is recommended to be performed, when you already upgraded your legacy Great Plains to version 7.5.  Migration tool simply moves tables one by one to newly created empty Great Plains installed companies on MS SQL Server 2000.  In these new installed companies you should create exactly the same account structure: segments and their lengths

4.       Intellisol Advanced Purchase Order Processing migration.  Historically, Great Plains Software decided to create its own Purchase Order Processing module and Intellosol lost partially its market share and attractiveness.  Migration tool was available in time.  You can contact us to get additional information

5.       GPA for DOS and Windows migration.  This migration was in its peak around year 2000.  You can still get it done, plus get substantial discount on newly purchased Microsoft Dynamics GP Business Ready licenses
