Basically, the installation of ActiveX controls is a downloading process, where the Internet Explorer 6.0 Web browser, upon entering a site with an enabled ActiveX, automatically recognizes that there is a required ActiveX control for some important website functions. The installation of ActiveX controls from some websites is required in order to play certain online games or for using other online applications, like ActiveX-enabled online forms where the users can input information for online orders. If you want to learn how to install ActiveX for Internet Explorer, read on and follow the steps below:
Step 1: On the Internet Explorer Web browser menu, click the "Internet Options", then click on the "Security" tab.
Step 2: Click on the "Trusted Sites" security zone to choose it.
Step 3: Click on the "Sites" button.
Step 4: Deselect or uncheck the check box for the "Require server verification", if it is checked.
Step 5: Type the website URL that needs ActiveX control in the "Add this Website to the zone" window.
Step 6: Click on the "Add" button in order to add the website to the "Trusted Sites" zone. The typed URL will move to the 2nd window. This is the website window.
Step 7: Close the window to finish and close the "Trusted Sites" window. This will lead you back to the "Internet Options Security" tab right on the "Internet Options" window.
Step 8: Click "OK" to complete, save, and apply the changes and to close the "Internet Options" window.
Step 9: Visit the website for which the ActiveX control needs to be downloaded.
Step 10: The message "An ActiveX control is loading" may not be visible and you may or may not receive the prompt to start downloading the ActiveX control; however, if prompted and you are sure that you trust the ActiveX control to be downloaded, just choose yes to begin the download.
Step 11: After receiving a message saying that the ActiveX control has already been loaded or after 5 minutes, remove the website from the "Trusted Sites" zone.
Steps to Removing the Site
Step 1: On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click the "Internet Options", and click the "Security" tab.
Step 2: Select it through the "Trusted Sites" security zone.
Step 3: Click on the Site button.
Step 4: Highlight the website URL that you just added under the step 5 of the installation method.
Step 5: Click on the "Remove" button to remove the website URL from the "Trusted Sites" list.
Step 6: Click "Close" to complete and navigate away from the "Trusted Sites" window. This will lead you back to the "Internet Options Security" tab in the "Internet Options" window.
Step 7: Click "OK" to complete, save, and apply the changes, and navigate away from the "Internet Options" window.
Additional Tips and Warning:
- It is assumed here that the website with the ActiveX control you want to download only needs special download and installation settings. This is the usual case; thus, after the ActiveX control has loaded, you may revert back to the preview Internet Explorer settings.
- Do not forget to revert to your previous Web browser settings.
