How to Setup a VPN Connection?

VPN technology allows a computer situated at remote location to establish a connection to the computer (server). This allow remote user to get access to the resources shared in the network folder of the server. You can share text file and media files. This technology provides secured data transmission between the computers.

VPN stands for Virtual Packet Networks. VPN technology allows a computer to establish a connection to a computer located at distant place by a secured connection or secured tunnel. This technology is very beneficial for the organization which has workplace situated at distant location. Now with this technology they can access to the resources available on network folder with so much ease that has never happened before. In VPN technology we have two important aspects: Ingoing VPN and Outgoing VPN. In the case of Ingoing VPN we can connect our computer to the network server to get access to the organization resources and incase of Outgoing VPN we can make our computer a remote server and allow other computer to communicate to get access to the resources available on network folder.

Windows 7 comes up with the Agile VPN client which provides to establish an Ingoing and Outgoing VPN in easy steps. In this article I will let you know about the whole procedure which you should have to follow:

Steps for How to establish a VPN Connection between the two computers:

1.      Click on the Start button and in the Start SearchBox type “VPN” and then you have to select the “Set up a Virtual Packet Network Connection”. This will automatically initiates VPN setup wizard.

2.      Then for configuring the outgoing VPN connection you have to write the IP address or Domain name of the server to which you want to establish connection. If you don’t have the information required for filling the initial startup form then you can gather all required information from Information technology Administrator also known as IT Admin.

3.      Then you have to put your “Username” and “Password” to establish a connection to the server.

4.      Clicks on the VPN window placed at the right bottom of Taskbar of your monitor screen then click on connect written below the VPN connection.

5.      You have to make the following changes on the Adapter Settings of computer to which is request is made .In this process this computer is working as a server.

·         Click on the Start option then Start SearchBox type “Network and Sharing”.

·         Then an option will appear as “Network and Sharing Center” select it and then click on “Change Adapter Settings” to regulate the connection.

6.      Then for providing VPN access to specific computer you have to enter its name through the following steps:

·         Click on “File” option available in the Menu bar and then select “New incoming Connection”.

·         A new window will appear which will show the number of devices requesting for the VPN access. Choose the users to which you want to provide VPN access. Then click on Next Button.

7.      For establishing the reliable VPN connection between computer you have to follow these steps:

·         Then select the protocol for the establishing the connection. Commonly “TCP/IPv4” protocol is used for establishing connection.

·         Click on Allow Access button then the outgoing computer will be able get access the resources and the connection is successfully established.
