The Chinese language is the largest aspect of the Chinese culture for kids and adults alike. When kids begin learning Chinese, it can be very difficult because it is not like any other language. The Chinese language is not like French, Italian, or Spanish, which uses the same alphabet as the English language.

The Chinese language uses charactersor symbols for words and phrases.  The best rule of thumb when it comes to learning the Chinese language is the younger the person, the better because then they will be able to start learning the simple Chinese symbols. Then, as they get older, they will become fluent in Chinese.

Spoken Chinese has more than 3,000 dialects. Even though there are different areas of China, the language is the exact same all over the country. The Chinese language started over 3,000 years ago. When the Chinese language first started, the characters resembled the word.  Here are some examples of words that are in the Chinese language:

Water – Shui

Sun – Ri

Mountain – Shan

Rain – Yu

When you are learning the Chinese language, it is best if you learn 10 symbols at a time. If you are teaching a child the Chinese language, then make sure that you do not over load the child with too many symbols. If you want the child or even yourself to be fluent in the Chinese language, then you will need to learn anywhere between 4,000 and 5,000 words.

A good way to learn or to teach the Chinese language as part of the Chinese culture for kids as a second language is to use flash cards. When using flash cards, you will be placing the Chinese symbol on one side and the English equivalent and phonetic pronunciation on the back of the flash card. This will the person to learn the Chinese language and it is an easy way to practice the language as well.  An easy way to learn how to write the Chinese language is by writing the symbols repeatedly. Repetition often works for various other things involving learning and/or school.

In Ancient China, students had to memorize many different pictures of characters each week and had to use a brush with ink to write the words. There are thousands of Chinese characters, which they had to memorize. Therefore, it is unlike the English language, where there are only 26 letters.  They had to get them memorize so they are able to read and write the Chinese language.

When the Chinese language is written, it is not as the English language is it written, which is left to right. In the Chinese language, words are written in columns. When reading Chinese, the language goes from top to bottom and left to right. When you start writing a paper in Chinese, the writing starts in the upper right hand corner of the paper.
