HOW TO BECOME A PARAMEDIC

CHOOSE A COURSE 

Post high school training a course has to be chosen. E.g.

  • MIT – Medical Imaging Technician
  • OTT – Operating Theatre Technician
  • EMT – Emergency Medical Technician
  • MLT – Medical Laboratory Technician
  • HA – Hospital Administration
 CHECK THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
  • For Undergraduate Certification Programs e.g. Bachelors in Operating Theatre Technician (BOTT) or Diploma in Operating Theatre Technician (DOTT) – one should have cleared 10+2 from a recognized University/Board with at least 50% marks.
  • For Postgraduate Certification Programs e.g. Masters in Hospital Administration (MHA) – one should have a valid recognized bachelor’s degree.
GET ADMISSION

Some institutes carry out admissions directly through their own entrance exam, some through a state-level entrance exam, while some institutions admit candidates through a  National level entrance exam. 

INTERNSHIP

These are usually for six months to one year. These train you in prehospital or hospital settings under the direct supervision of a designated instructor.

REMUNERATION

It depends on:

  • The standard of the organization
  • The skills of an individual
  • The experience of the professional

On average, the starting income of paramedics is about 2 to 3 lakh per annum which increases as one adds years to their experience. In addition to this, some employers offer allowances and healthcare benefits to their employees.
