What can you teach with baby blocks? The better question is, What can’t you teach with them?
Baby blocks are great because you can use them to teach so many things to your baby. From numbers to letters, colors to simple words, you can use them in games with your baby that can be entertaining and educational at the same time. Every single thing that you do with these blocks can teach your baby something valuable.
A baby’s brain never grows any faster than in the first year of his life. Think of the accomplishments he or she makes in that first twelve months and you might be more shocked by the amazing things that can be done. They go from a little bundle of squirmy, unfocused energy that sleeps most of their day to learning how to walk, talk and have better control over those little bodies. One of the first things that you can do with these blocks is to help encourage fine motor skills. Even before the baby is ready to start learning his numbers or letters, he will be exploring his world by picking things up and then dropping them. He will bite and taste things as well. Once he has the control to pick up and set things down, he can work on learning to stack things.
Babies also love to make noise, something they can do with these blocks as well. They can learn that banging them together can make one kind of noise while hitting them into other objects will make another type of noise. They will learn how to throw with these and will also use them in a number of different situations. In fact, because they can be so versatile, there is actually no limit at all on the use of blocks for your baby’s development.
Your baby spends his time eating, sleeping and playing. All of these things are equally important for his development both physically and mentally. The more stimulation you can give his little brain, the smarter he will become. The more time that he spends playing, the better. Blocks can be thrown in a bag and taken along when you go about your errands. They can be tossed into the playpen or even taken into the bathtub for water play. You should consider having more than one set of blocks, allowing your child to have a set at your house, the grandparent’s home and other places that he goes to frequently.
When your child goes to preschool and already knows more than everybody else, you can be a proud parent, knowing that you have already given him a solid foundation and knowing that at least a small part of that comes from his use of baby blocks when he was just a very small baby.
