How Being a Pizza Delivery Worker Can Benefit Teens

Many people wouldn't think that becoming a pizza delivery worker is a good way for teens to build character and learn about important aspects of life. Contrary to this belief, however, there are several different things that performing this job can actually teach a young person.

The first and probably the most obvious element is communication. For the most part, this particular job won't require them to sit and talk extensively for 10 or 15 minutes at a time. That's because they are on a time-frame. However, they may run into someone who is a little chatty or they may even run into instances where they may have to explain certain things. This is great for those who may be shy or have trouble communicating with others in their everyday lives. Because they will be communicating with so many people on a day to day basis, it will give them a number of opportunities to increase their speaking skills and it can also help to diminish their shyness.

Another great thing about being a pizza delivery worker is that it can teach teens to have a sense of direction. Because they are at the age where they are just starting to drive, they may not know how to navigate their city or the area very well. Some might already have it down pat, because they pay attention whenever they are in a car with someone else. However, there are others who don't take it upon themselves to study their surroundings. So, when the time finally comes for them to drive they don't really have a sense of direction. Being a pizza delivery worker and going to so many different places during their routes, allows them to learn how to navigate through the area they call home.

Some people would say that they could always use a GPS when they are going out to deliver food. Although this is a good idea, there may be times that the system stops functioning properly or stops working altogether. During these times, they will need to know the area for themselves.

Lastly, being a pizza delivery worker can also teach teens the importance of time-management. As previously mentioned, they are on a time-schedule during their routes. So, they can't just play around and make random or extra stops to go and chat with friends. This type of job teaches them to be more disciplined and how to use their time wisely.
