Once you have bought your cutlery,How To Look After Your Cutlery Articles the next task is keeping them sharp! This can be an annoyance, but if you want your cutlery to work as well it did the day you bought it, then you need to sharpen it regularly. Wear and tear is inevitable, but if you keep on top of sharpening your cutlery you will certainly maximise their life span.

Firstly, you need to use the correct type of chopping board. I advise you to go with a wooden chopping board, as it is soft enough to not damage the cutting edge. Plastic chopping boards are also popular, and one great advantage is that they can go in the dishwasher.

You need to ensure you keep cutlery clean too, but ironically, the biggest culprit of dulling your cutlery is in fact the dishwasher, a machine designed to do the opposite! Dishwashers knock the cutlery against each other which results in damage to the blades. The best way to avoid this is by hand washing. Ensure you don’t soak your cutlery in the cleaning water, and remember that once you have cleaned it all, dry it properly using a clean dry tea towel before storing it away.

That actually leads on to my final point, regarding storage. Just like the dishwasher, where you store your cutlery can have an impact on dulling. Use a proper container, and for your knives a block is your safest bet. This also prevents damage from them being knocked about in the cutlery draw.
