One of the problems with most website owners is that they neglect to properly update their sites to keep them current. Did you know that there are over one trillion web pages on the Internet today? And did you know that a whopping 70% have never been updated since their inception? Updating your website and keeping it fresh is one of key elements in search engine positioning.
The older a website is, the higher it will place in the search engines. But the Google loves fresh content too. That is why blogging is so popular. Blogs refresh a couple of times a week and the search engines index them faster than regular webpages. But if you let your blog sit too long, it will sink in the results fast. Updating a site is easy and quick. It doesn't have to be totally reworked, just a few current changes will work wonders.
First, you should always update your event calendar. Tell your visitors well in advance where your next art show, craft market or gallery showing will be. This will bring the customers out to see you and it really works. Next, update your photos of your pieces. Show all of the new designs that you have been working on. This can be exciting to past customers and they will want to come back for something new. Yes, artists really do get a lot of repeat business.
Seeing that a website is current will make visitors feel better about their time spent and will make you more money. All too often I see artist websites where the pieces shown have been sold long ago and the show schedule is 8 months old. I wouldn't bother to try and contact you or leave a comment if I think you will never see it. Your website is the lifeblood of your Internet business...keep it up to date.
