Successful people leave clues about how they are successful. Your is first to define what you want in detail, find someone who’s already accomplished it, and then learn from them what you must do to achieve it. Learning by trial and error is great, yet it takes longer than learning from someone who has already done it. The final step is to persevere and never give up.

Have you heard the phrase “success leaves clues”?  It can be heard from a few different inspirational speakers in the personal development industry such as Tony Robbins and Reuben Gonzalez.  Successful people do indeed leave clues about how they are successful,If Success Leaves Clues, Where Are They? Articles and you probably have no doubt that if anyone else is successful in life, that you can be, too.  Yet, many people don’t know where to find the clues to be massively successful.  The key is modeling those who are successful in the specific area of life that you also want to be successful in.

Before you find someone to model, you must determine what it is you want.  You must define your dream.  The more specific you are, the better.  It is also important that you write it down.  Keep asking yourself, “What do I want?” then write it down.  Also, ask yourself, “Why do I want it?”  This will help you determine if you want it for you, or if you are doing it for someone else.  Be sure that this is for you!  As Anna Quindlen so eloquently said, “If your success is not on your own terms, if it looks good to the world but does not feel good in your heart, it is not success at all.”  If you are reaching for things in life for the wrong reasons, you will feel unfulfilled once you’ve obtained it.  It must be your dream, not anyone else’s.

Once you’ve specifically defined the success you want to achieve, review what you’ve written and take it one step further.  Ask yourself a few more questions, and be sure to answer them in as much detail as possible by bring in as many of the 5 physical senses into your answers.  Make your answers exciting as possible.  You have permission to be unreasonable, outrageous, silly, or even crazy when you answer these questions.  The result you are seeking for is your own excitement for obtaining exactly what you want.  Here are the questions: “When I obtain my definition of success, how will it look?  How will it sound?  How will it taste?  How will I feel?  How will it smell?”  You can ask additional questions to be even more specific.  Again, write down your answers.

At this point, you should be buzzing with excitement about accomplishing your definition of success.  Now that you’ve done all the preparation work, this is when you need to find someone who is outrageously successful in what you want to achieve.  Once you’ve found your mentor, find out how they achieved exactly what you want.  Your mentor could be a living person or someone who has already died.  If the person is no longer living, you can find the clues of success in their biographies and from those living who knew them very well.  If the person is living, you can obtain what you need through correspondence either in person, via letters, email, phone conversations, or even books they’ve written or have been written about them.  If you are committed to finding what you need, you’ll find a way to obtain it.

You may have a tendency to skip the step of finding the mentor and just going after your definition of success.  That is a viable option, and it will work, it will just take you a longer time.  The way to shortcut many of the valuable lessons that you would need to learn through trial and error is to find someone who has already done it.  They will be able to steer you through the obstacles you should expect, and some strategies for dealing with them.

Almost all success stories, including your own, will follow the familiar three step pattern of dream, struggle, and then success.  Almost anyone who has achieved great things has first been fueled by their dream.  They were then were met with incredible struggles that they had to overcome, and since they overcame those struggles and refused to give up – that’s what made them successful.  They achieved their dream because they persevered.

To find the clues of success, start with your own dream and define it in great detail.  Then find someone who’s already done it, and learn what you must do.  Then do it.  Don’t give up on your dream, even though there will be many opportunities to do so.  Keep in mind that nothing great is ever accomplished without first pushing through the struggle to get there.

God bless you in your journey!
