Online Deals for Pop Culture Items

As soon I got home right after seeing the fantastic film Jumper, I
immediately turned on my computer, went on to Google, and typed “The
North Face backpack Hayden Christensen used in Jumper”. I am like that,
you see; if I decided that this item I saw in a movie or TV show is
“cool”, I would have to get one for myself. That’s how obsessive I am
about the online deals I have been making for a time now. Needless to
say, pop culture dictates that behavior. And that’s how I’ve come to
buy a black bag that I may never really use for any kind of purpose
–other than for display, of course.
Remember that “flash
thingie” that Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith had used in Men in Black
to wipe the memories off of people? That is what started it. I thought
it was such a must-have that I spent a couple of weeks looking for
online merchandise stores that sold the item. I got a very good replica
of the item for less than five bucks. Ever since then I have been on
the look out for cheap collectibles that have, in one way or another, a
reference to pop culture.
Let’s see what online deals I have
made recently for my memorabilia collection. Yesterday, a packaged
arrived for me containing a movie prop from an old John Wayne western
(I was so surprised that no one else would buy it), plus the remote
control car that was used in Ocean’s Eleven. And last week I bought a
guitar pick that was once used by David Cook on American Idol; I also
purchased my second Anakin Skywalker light saber from eBay. And at a
bargain price, too! Right now, though, I am scouring blogs, forums, and
buy-and-sell websites for any Batman merchandise on which I can get my
hands.
All this is certainly a personal quirk. I spend hours and
hours every single day at my computer desk looking for a particular
item for sale. But you know what? After making the rounds on the
Internet I have found communities around the world who do the same
thing, who pay to get for themselves the stuff that movie stars have
worn and touched and used in a movie set. (That’s how I know I’m not
that weird.) I have made friends with some of them and struck up a
camaraderie, and we exchange insider tips whenever we catch each other
online.
Tomorrow I am off to see the latest Mummy movie starring
Brendan Fraser, which got good reviews but did not really do so well in
the box office. No matter. I’ll still be sure to keep a keen eye on the
details of the scenes. And while some people might mistake me for a
production critic, I really am just a regular guy – with a passion for
the coolest items of our time, and the dedication to getting the best
online deals on them.
