Red Ribbonit is the symbol of caring about Aids. In the end of 1980s, people considered Aids was a very horrible disease, so the patients faced the discrimination. In the world first Aids conference, the HIV infesters and Aids patients were calling on people’s understanding. The supports were throwing red ribbons in the sky and used pins to fold ribbons on their chest. Since then, a lot of Aids caring organizations and medical institutions started to use red ribbon as their symbol.

Yellow Ribbon: It is a sign of asking help when relatives are dispersing, it also the symbol of blessing for family members. On the October 14, 1971 a novel published in the New York Post moved the whole world: on a coach, there was sitting a silence man, he opened his mouth until several times asked by the tourists on the same car. Originally he was just released from prison, before being released, he had wrote a letter to his wife as if she still loved him and wanted him go home, then tied a yellow ribbon on the old oak in the front of the town; if there was no ribbon, he would leave and never go back. As the coach drove near to the destination, passengers found that there are hundreds of yellow ribbons on that old oak tree. This story spreaded over the world, and yellow ribbon also became the sign of “welcome imprisoned people recover free” in the US. From then on, people use yellow ribbon to express happiness, hope and peace of relatives.

Blue Ribbon: It is used to show thanksgiving, encouragement, caring and love. A middle school teacher in the New York decided to encourage her each student to know their own value, so she choose blue ribbon to reach her aim. She called each student to the platform and told them about their influences on her, then sent each one a blue ribbon with a sentence as “I am special, I create difference”. Later, blue ribbon has the meaning of gratitude, encouragement and love.

Green Ribbon: It expresses the public’s supporting and loving to insanes, and it also aims to call on attention to own mental health. Green ribbon reflects the whole society work together with insane, creating an appropriate environment for those patients returning.

White Ribbon: It is the symbol of opposing the violence that man to woman. On December 6, 1989 a Canadian mob that disgruntled women’s movement killed 14 young female university students by shooting. After that tragedy, some men in Canada organized the “White Ribbon” movement which committed to eliminate the violence against women. Then every year on November 25 to December 6, men in some countries will put on white ribbon to commemorate this movement.

Purple Ribbon: This kind of ribbon is the symbol to reverse violence. Purple ribbon movement first launched in the US, it aims to reduce the society violence, community violence and school violence.
