I have seen and heard a few presentations lately on "Prosperity Mindset" and I wanted to talk about something that is worth considering.

Most of these people who are talking today are bringing in a lot of money and on the surface that would give them credibility. But some of them I know personally and it had little or nothing to do with mindset. Their success was either when they got in,Does the Prosperous Mindset Still Work? Articles who they knew or what they are doing. I'm not saying they didn't work hard, but to say it was all a result of their wonderful mindset is not the whole truth.

Life has a flow to it, cycles, ups and downs and most people lose their "mindset" very quickly when things don't go well for them. But if someone truly has a prosperous mindset, it seems it would serve them best when things are down, not when everything is rosy.

Those who haven't seen enough of life to know better would say, "Well, if they have a prosperous mindset, they shouldn't be down". But consider that just because things are down doesn't mean you don't have things you are thankful for and that your life is not prosperous.

I thought about this a lot when I read Orison S. Marden's biography. He is the man who wrote the book "Prosperity: How to Attract It". Mr. Marden had been a very successful man in the hotel business when a fire hit his building and burned everything included his manuscript for this book. He was living in Kansas or Missouri, I forget which, and decided to go back to the Northeastern United States and regroup.

When he wrote "Prosperity: How to Attract It", Mr. Marden was living in a rented apartment above and butcher shop walking down to the local dinner for his meals. He had lost everything BUT his prosperous mindset. When reading the book, you would think he was the most prosperous man in the countryand he was. Even though this book was written in the early 1900's it's as true today as it was 100 years ago.

From that place of once again having nothing, Mr. Marden went on to found Success Magazine and regain his fortune. So while is easy for these internet millionaires to say "I've got the mindset, just look at my bank account", that doesn't mean much with me. I hope they can maintain their mindset when they get busted or stumble as so often happens in life, then talk to be about how your mindset is pulling you through.

I heard a commentary recently about how most young people today have never been through a downturn or recession. They never knew the gas lines of the 70's and 20% 40 year mortgage rates and so today's situations are a shock. Life has cycles and while it's easy to be positive in the good times, what are you going to do when the times are lean?

God wants us to prosper regardless of the times, but just remember that prosperity is relative to the situation. So don't think the mindset isn't working when times are lean, that's when you need it the most. Stay true to what you know is true and you will always be rewarded.
