Therefore, you want to start out slow, make any needed course corrections, and gradually increase your results.

This isn't a normal thing you will be doing. It's a challenge! Fortunately, the following steps will help. They simplify the overall process into a series of simple tasks. Each completed task makes the following task easier to accomplish. You can use all or a portion of this roadmap repeatedly. Eventually, you should be able to achieve your goals in life.

Rules for living

Take charge of your life -- This step consists of making a decision. Are you going to let past attitudes, beliefs, habits, and norms control the rest of your life? If the answer is yes, then you can skip the rest of this article. If the answer is no, go on to the next step.

Focus on your true desires and natural talents -- You may choose to ignore this step. In my opinion, your best chance of making changes and improving your life is to focus on your true desires and natural talents. If you agree, then you need to spend some time discovering those desires and talents. If you don't agree with my opinion, go on to the next step.

Seek out and exploit suitable opportunities -- First, you decide which of your "great" things to tackle first. Then, you look around for suitable opportunities for achieving that great thing. (You also may want to consider your true desires and natural talents). Don't try to "change the world" as your first goal. Try for what is possible. (You can change the world later, after you become rich and powerful.)

Learn and follow the rules of the game -- You're probably going to be dealing with other people in achieving your great thing. These other people usually have their own ways of doing things. I refer to these other ways as the "rules of the game." When working with this group, you need to recognize and adapt to their ideas. Thus, it's best to keep your ideas to yourself for now.

Influence people to help you -- You usually need the help of other people when trying to achieve your dreams. Now that you know and follow the rules of the game, you can more easily get people to help you. However, people will be more apt to help you if they can help themselves at the same time. So discover the needs and desires of the people whose help you need. Then think of ways that their help can be mutually beneficial.

Get the tough jobs done -- By this time, you have done a great deal to make things happen. This is the part where you have to dig in and start doing whatever else it takes to get the job done. However, you might save a lot of time, effort, and even cash by finding out how other people have accomplished a particular task. Go to a search engine and type in the keywords for the task you need help with.

Enjoy life every day -- This is the final step, and it may be a surprise to you. In my opinion, you don't need to accomplish great things in order to enjoy life every day. Deciding whether to enjoy life is a choice you make every day. But first, take care of any thing that is troubling you. Don't ignore problems. Confront them and then decide how to handle them. Okay, now you can enjoy the rest of the day. It's your choice after all.
