It is understood that after knowing the news of zheng ping's illness, a lot of runners everywhere around the country sympathize her who is poor but loves the marathon so much. Yesterday, there are thousands of runners from eight cities including Dalian hold a running fund-raising activity for Zheng Ping.
On 9 am yesterday morning, the reporter saw in Fu Jia Zhuang that several people have already started to sell goods for charity and donate for Zheng Ping. As the organizer of this donation activity, Yu Lei sells his commemorative medal of cross-country running for charity. Yu Lei told the reporter that about ten days ago when he knew what happened to Zheng Ping from the internet and Xiamen runners, he was very moved so that he decided to help her.
According to what Yu Lei said, aged 22, Zheng Ping comes from a remote countryside in Zunyi City, Guizhou Province. For helping her parents to raise her younger brothers and sisters, she worked in Xiamen alone when she was sixteen years old. Zheng Ping joins Xiamen part-time running team after work and she finishes 42.195 km marathon in three hours and 30 minutes which will make her rank in the top 100 among all of the female athletes in China. Zheng Ping is tall, kind, enthusiasm, helpful and easy-going. In the end of last year, Zheng Ping's legs were swelling and painful as well as her throat. She chooses to bear the pain and keeps working because she gets low salary per month. She went to the hospital to do a thorough examination for the first time being helped by Xiamen runners in the early April this year, however, she was diagnosed with acute leukemia.
Yu Lei tells the reporter that according to local doctors initial diagnosis, the cure rate of Zheng Ping's disease is over 60% and the treatment cost is about 0.4 million RMB. With the help of so many runners, Zheng Ping is now treated in a normal hospital in Xiamen city.
Since it is difficult to cobble together the cost of treatment, Xiamen runners ask for the help of other runners in the country through internet. About ten days after sending out this message, so many runners in eight cities come to help. Today, runners coming from eight cities including Dalian, Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Yantai raise money by running. Yu Lei tells reporters that more than 160 Dalian runners as well as some enterprises have joined this fund-raising activity, among them there is a sports goods store selling sports goods in the value around ten thousand for charity, as well as a marketing director of a sea cucumber company promises to donate 100 Yuan as long as any runner runs for 10 kilometers.
Around ten o'clock yesterday morning, the running campaign began officially and more than 160 runner ran from Fu Jia Zhuang to North Bridge pulling banners blessing for Zheng Ping. This Activity has caused a lot of visitors' attention and they love to give a hand for Zheng Ping. The activity was not end until around half past eleven yesterday morning. This reporter learned that the total money raised is up to 24,000 Yuan which includes 10,000 Yuan donated by the sea cucumber company because there were 100 runners totally finishing10 km and fund raised by runners there. Yu Lei says that he will give the money to Zheng Ping as soon as possible with a hope that the love from Dalian runners will love her to overcome the disease and return to the running team soon.
