Canadian holiday hockey tradition starts on Boxing Day. The 2022 edition of the World Juniors will get underway on Boxing Day at Rogers Place.

Following an original IIHF World Junior Championship that began in 2021,Canada-Finland to Headline New Year’s Eve at wjc Articles the World Junior Championship will begin Christmas Day in 2021, the 2022 edition of the World Juniors will get underway on Boxing Day, with four games to kick off the schedule on the first day.

Hockey Canada and the host committee, representing the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced the complete schedule of the tournament on Thursday. The tournament will feature 31 games at Rogers Place in Edmonton and the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer beginning on December. 26th, 2021 until January. 5, 2022.

"The World Juniors is a big occasion that is a must-attend event for Canadian hockey fans. The unveiling of the tournament's schedule an indication of how close it is to beginning with Edmonton or Red Deer this holiday season," said Riley Wiwchar who is the Director of Operations for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship. "We anticipate organizing this year's World Juniors to both communities as we showcase some of the top international hockey for fans, local to the two communities, and across the nation and around the world."

The tournament is comprised of 10 teams. Canada as a member of Group A alongside Austria as well as Austria, Czech Republic, Finland and Germany in Edmonton and Group B consists comprising Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States in Red Deer.
