There are few football trophies as significant as the FA cup and football fans are all looking forward to the final later this month between Man City and Stoke.

Last months London semi final between the two Manchester teams was always going to be a massive fixture. The Man City player who scored the winning goal,FA cup semi finals 2010 – 2011 season Articles Yaya Toure, said:

I won many football trophies at Barcelona but this one would be very special because the club has waited for so long and I want to be part of this history. It was amazing to score the goal that got us to the final, for a club which has not won a cup in my lifetime.

A day later there was heart break for another North West side when Bolton were destroyed by Stoke City. By half time Etherington, Huth and Jones had found the back of the net for Stoke and Bolton had an uphill struggle ahead of them. The second half saw more misery for Bolton when Owen Coyle saw his side concede two more goals to Jon Walters, final score: 5- 0.

So who will win the clash when Man City meets Stoke City at Wembley on the 14th of May? Well with Man City still on target for a top 4 premiership finish this season, with the Champions League football it promises for the next, you have to think they are the smart bet for the clash. Silverware seems likely to be the reward for a great seasons performance.

The first FA cup was held in 1871 making the FA cup the oldest football competition in the world. Any team who plays in the national league system can compete from Premier League sides to amateur teams. A lot of the romance enjoyed by many in the FA cup comes from the open eligibility which means that on memorable occasions minnows become giant killers! The most recent example from the 2010-2011 competition is the shock defeat of Newcastle United by Stevenage Borough. The smallest clubs in the competition are normally knocked out in the early stages so it is unusual for the smallest clubs to meet the largest. Sadly we are unlikely to see an amateur village side beat Arsenal in the near future.
