Creating the Droid Font

While coming up with a fresh, innovative idea for Android, Google wanted to keep several things in mind that they are known for. One, Google is renowned for their contemporary fonts that are easily adjusted to the specific theme in use. They didn’t want something that would look too tech-y and be harsh to look at, but wanted a font that would quickly captivate the viewer and promote the character of the product. But they didn’t want the font to be the main reason that the product was bought, but rather have it be an added bonus or extra feature to an already great product.

Of the many proposals that were suggested, two stood out from the rest. These two were drastically different from one another and it was concluded that creating something in the middle of the two would be perfect, it wouldn’t be too tech-y or too flighty. Once this decision was made it was easy to begin work on creating a font that maintained the same basic principles of Google and yet remain completely separate. The finished product was perfect for the Dream phone.

Special Features of the Droid Fonts

The extra features of the Droid font will only be available on the G1 or Android mobile phones, making it a rare thing to behold indeed. Practically all of the features of the phone will be converted to the Droid font, such as the address book and the text message features, among others. And when accessing websites on your mobile phone the font of the website will be converted to one of the three Droid fonts, either monospace, sans serif or serif.

If you think that that is almost too much, then you will be amazed to find out that there is a vast assortment of international characters that are used in many Asian countries (China, Japan etc.) If you are looking to find a way to solve a great mystery or want to solve a code you will become quite saddened. The fonts are simply fonts and there is no mystery to be solved.
