Finding an online backup service for your business needs means comparing the pros and cons of various services until you find the one that works for you. Carbonite is one of the available backup services with a business plan option. Offering several features and pricing plans,Carbonite Business Review: An Overview of the Business Side of the Service Articles this solution should be a potential choice in your search for an online backup service. This Carbonite Business review can help you evaluate the service and decide for yourself. Features
The business version is a fairly new branch of Carbonite storage services. Launched in June of 2011, it appears to be all about file storage. The service offers scheduled and automatic backups, remote and mobile access, file searching and versioning, as well as archiving. The security level of Carbonite Business includes 128-bit and 448-bit encryptions. The service is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.
For those that place a high value on customer support, Carbonite Business offers three forms of communication: live chat, email and phone support. Priority phone support is available for $19.95 per year. An additional feature is their valet setup. With this option, users can elect to have a Carbonite team install the service for them and customize the setup to fit their exact business needs.
Pros and Cons
Users of the business plan receive an unlimited number of computers per subscription. The service supports external storage backup – users that regularly backup to an external source can set up Carbonite Business to backup that external source. Users can also recover their data through the mail. The high level of customer support and valet setup feature is also a big bonus for Carbonite for Business.
One the downside, Carbonite Business lacks some key features that many businesses utilize. For large initial backups, this service does not offer users the option of mailing in an external device – instead, customers have to cope with the potentially lengthy upload process on their own. The lack of file sharing and syncing also make it difficult for users to collaborate on files across multiple computers. Storage and Pricing
The Carbonite Business plans are easy to understand. At the time of this writing, for $229/year, users get 250GB of online space. For $599/year, users get 500GB of space. Additional space is available under both plans at $46/year for 50GB and $89/year for 100GB. Both plans include unlimited computers, so users do not have to worry about paying extra each month for additional computers.
Is Carbonite Right for Your Business?
Carbonite Business is designed for home offices and small businesses that are only interested in online storage. If you are a business owner looking to collaborate on files across devices, this is not the right choice for you. However, if you are a business owner that only needs the security of having your data backed up to another location, Carbonite Business could be the ideal choice. The final decision for selecting an online backup service for your business depends on your storage and syncing needs.
