Cakes have a long history of association in traditional rites and ceremonies. In earlier times they were a privilege of the rich classes only owing to its high costs. But nowadays with reduced production costs and ingredients they have become accessible to all the masses. Cakes come in various shapes, sizes and flavors such as chocolate, vanilla and butterscotch.

They are a traditional food item with a long history of association in ceremonies and rituals. In olden times, people used cakes as offerings to gods and spirit. The ancient Chinese used to make cakes to honor the seasonal cycle of the moon and celebrate their lunar goddess. The ancients too had Beltane cakes in celebration of the sun, and the origin of the birthday cake is also connected with the seasonal cycle and in celebration of Roman gods. They used to celebrate three different types of birthdays including private celebrations, birthdays of cities and temples of their gods and birthdays of members of the Imperial family.  And the origin of the English word cake back can be traced back to the 13th century. It is of Viking origin and derived from the Norse word "kaka." The first culture to show evidence of advanced baking skills was the Egyptians but their cakes were very different from what we eat today. They were more bread-like with dry fruits and raisins as ingredients and sweetened with honey.

The earliest form of modern cakes was first baked in Europe sometime in the middle of the 17th century and it was not until the middle of the 19th century that the cakes as we know it today were developed. But those cakes were still a privilege of the rich and wealthy upper class only due to the high cost of ingredients and production. But with rapid advances in technology over time and increase in food production, cakes became widespread to the entire population. Nowadays cakes are a favorite food item of millions all over the world. Everyone enjoys biting into a cake whether it is during celebrations or at normal times when we crave for something delicious and filling.

Cakes also make popular and ideal gift items because of their ceremonial value and popularity. A beautifully decorated cake is the highlight for any event or a social occasion such as weddings and birthdays. Nowadays cakes are available at most restaurant, bakeries and online gift stores too. They come in a myriad variety of sizes, shapes and flavors such as Chocolate Cakes, Black Forest Cakes and Chocolate Truffle Cakes.

Cakes come with different fillings and a Chocó truffle cake comes with a chocolate ganache centre coated in chocolate, icing sugar, cocoa powder or chopped toasted nuts. The ganache may be replaced with other filling such as cream, caramel, nuts, berries, fudge, marshmallow or liqueur. The traditional shapes of these cakes resemble the truffle, an edible part of the tuber fungus and hence the name of Truffles Cakes which is derived from its shape. The Truffle cake is probably the most consumed cake in the world. These cakes are so popular that even eggless truffle cakes are available for vegetarians. The truffles cake eggless version looks similar in shape and presentation and also retains the same flavor as the original.
