Bee hives can form in trees and bushes or under eaves of structures; they may appear in variations on the classic form we all know from cartoons. But bees and wasps can also live underground and in walls. In these locations (especially within walls), bee control, removal and killing all become more of a challenge. A wall opening shouldn't simply be blocked off, because the bees will only be driven to find an exit inside the building itself, leading to a potentially dangerous situation for anyone in the building.

Even those who love bees don't want a hive in the walls of their homes,What to Consider in Doing a Safe Natural Bee Control Auckland Articles and a number of people simply don't care for bees at all and are upset at the thought of bees living anywhere on their property. Unfortunately, bee populations are dwindling, so if it becomes necessary to get rid of them for reasons of personal safety, you should do as little damage to the hive as possible.

Beehives in a wall or underground definitely require the assistance of a skilled pest controlprofessional. Bee hive removal from a wall involves that much more skilled labor. Sometimes removal won't be an option; a professional will be able to assess the situation to make that judgment. Even killing becomes more difficult within a wall. If honeybees or wasps are killed within a wall, all of the remains must be removed. Otherwise, residual honey or insect carcasses will attract other pests into the building.

Organic approaches provide some simple and non-toxic ways of bee controlkeeping bees at bay without decimating entire bee

Tasty Bee Lures

Step 1:

Slice a ripe pear or mango into several pieces. The fruit should be soft, sugary and fragrant, because bees are attracted to sweet aromas. There are also commercial bee attractants (See Reference 1) that rely on sweetness as their lure, but research has demonstrated that naturally sweet materials provide effective bait.

Step 2:

Place the fruit in an unwaxed paper sandwich bag. Carry the bag to an area that is 15 to 20 feet from the area from which you want to draw the bees away.

Step 3:

Leave the top of the bag open. The fragrance will attract the bees, even as the fruit begins to rot.

Step 4:

Wait a few days and repeat the process, moving the new bag a few feet farther away from the location. Repeat this several times until the bees no longer approach the original location.

Noxious Bee Repellants

Step 1:

Avoid using colognes and aftershave, as these sweet smelling materials can attract bees. Refrain from burning scented candles indoors or using commercial air freshening sprays.

Step 2:

Sprinkle powdered garlic generously around outdoor areas where bees have congregated. Bees find this odor offensive and will keep away. When garlic is applied directly to bees, the effect can be lethal.

Step 3:

Burn citronella candles to create a masking odor that keeps bees away. Citronella will not harm bees directly, but honeybees and bumblebees will avoid areas that are infused with its smell.

Organic Bee Pesticides

Step 1:

Spray a vegetable oil based horticultural oil as a topical pesticide on plants and other surfaces in the affected area where the bees might alight. For best results, this should be done in the evening, at night or early in the morning.

Step 2:

Sprinkle food-grade diatomaceous earth in the area, if the horticultural oil proves ineffective. This is a more potent pesticide that will also affect bees in the hive (Reference 2 [book 2], page 2-4]

Step 3:

Apply a pyrethrin spray if a still more toxic pesticide becomes necessary. This chemical is a fast-acting neuro-disruptive toxin that can stay active for up to a week before safely biodegrading. Pyrethrins are a chrysanthemum extract
