Just because you pay for your health insurance or have it through your place of employment doesn't mean all that much at times when it comes to your treatment or your drug coverage. There is a critical shortage of drugs that you need and it is causing quite a stir in the health care system, which is a system that is enormous and becomes awfully tangled when it comes time to paying the bills.

There is so much red tape involved that the government is having a hard time finding answers, especially when many government officials are in the pockets of the health care industry. Some of these drugs that are being withheld from those who need them are those that include everything from cancer to asthma.

Right now more than 100 quality drugs that are commonly prescribed by doctors across the county are on the endangered species list of the drug world. The FDA oversees the health care drug industry but most of the drugs are produced by independent companies that are reducing the output of the top of the line drugs that serve the best in the interest of those who need them. Most of these independent companies that support the drugs that people need to sustain their quality of life simply can't afford to produce the top of the line products anymore and, in order to meet the bottom line that is vital to every company today, they simply have to cut costs which also means cutting back on the quality of health care.

Chemotherapy drugs, which are used to treat cancer patients, are among those at the top of the list when it comes to cutting costs. When cancer treatment is having its corners cut, that is a problem that most average citizens can't do anything about whether they have quality health insurance or not.

Doctors are having to resort to prescribing different drugs in place of those that they would normally prescribe very simply because these drugs are not available and as a result many of the drugs they are prescribing may not be covered by your health insurance. This is essentially leaving patients to pay for these very expensive medications out of their own pockets.

The system clearly isn't working, but that doesn't affect the drug manufacturers because all they can do is watch their bottom line and try not to go broke. The government must take action to make sure everyone is treated with the best possible drugs and that no one suffers.
