White- or light-coloured carpets can make a room absolutely beautiful. However, this beauty can be marred by dust stains on the carpet along the skirting boards. These stains are caused by gaps underneath the skirting boards and you can deal with it by sealing these gaps.

Light-coloured carpets,How to Deal with Dark Carpet Stains Near Your Skirting Boards Articles especially the white ones, make a room absolutely stunning, especially if the room's design elements are all in white or if there is a dark-coloured element to provide a dramatic contrast to the light-coloured carpet.  However, as beautiful as such a design is, few people actually dare to have it in their homes.  That is because it is hard to maintain a clean carpet, especially near skirting boards.  Dark carpet stains just tend to form along the length of skirting boards, and they can mar the beauty of a white- or light-coloured carpet.
If you have light carpets at home and you often see dark stains along your skirting boards, it only means one thing: There are gaps underneath your baseboards.  The air that circulates under the flooring of your house escapes through these gaps and leave behind it dust that mark trails on your carpet.
If the gaps underneath your pine skirting boards are wreaking havoc on your carpets by the way of dust trails, how do you get to solve the problem?  The solution is actually very simple, and it only involves a carpet knife, cedar paper, some flexible tape, some flexible sealants and your cleaning tools.  Here is a step-by-step guide to dealing with dark carpet stains near your baseboards on a more permanent basis.
1. Pull back the carpet along your  cheap skirting boards.  If you have to cut it so you can peel it off your floor, then go ahead and do so with your carpet knife.  Expose enough space for you to work on without damaging your carpets any further.
2. Clean the exposed area of dust and dirt.  You may have to scrub the baseboard with soap and water, as well as siphon the dust trapped in the gaps under the baseboard.  Be sure to vacuum the area around the gaps as well.
3. Once the area you will be working on is clean and dry, go ahead and put the sealant in the gaps and then allow it to dry.  To make sure that the sealants have made the gaps airtight, push the cedar paper under the baseboards and hold it in place with flexible tape.
4. Remove dust-stained carpet underlay and replace it with new ones.  Once the new carpet underlay is in place, smooth the carpet down back to where it was before you began your task.
5. Clean your carpets.  So that you can completely remove the dust stains on the carpet along the line of your MDF skirting boards, you will need to use a heavy-duty carpet cleaner.  If you do not want to deal with cleaning your carpet by yourself or if you have no idea how to get it done without damaging your carpet, get in touch with a professional cleaner to work on your carpets for you.
Gaps underneath the skirting board can make an otherwise beautiful, white- or light-coloured carpet look nasty because of dust trails.  If you are experiencing this problem, sealing those gaps under the skirting board is the simplest and most effective solution.
