The best motivation for working hard at getting your ex back is if you know your plans will work.  If it were guaranteed that your goal of getting your ex back could be accomplished, you’d rush into it blindly.  Unfortunately, there can’t be any 100 percent guarantee but there are measures you can take to work on understanding your chances of getting your ex back.

Little to No Effective Communication

People are still generally going to talk after a breakup such as:

- Making arrangements to pick up items left over
- Just running into each other and having casual conversation. 

If this is about the extent of your communication with your ex, it’s very likely he’s trying hard to get over you.  This doesn’t mean your chances are over with him, it just means you’re going to have to work harder at recapturing his attention.

Open Communication

This is obviously the preferred answer to how much your ex still communicates with you after a breakup.  If he calls you frequently for any reason he still wants to keep you in his life.  He just might be a little confused about how to do that since he knows he’s the one that broke things off with you.

Not only is he still going to call you, he’s also likely to turn to you for advice and will appear to see you as someone he can talk to about work or other troubles.  This is advantageous for you because it shows he still cares a lot about you and he trusts you and your input.

How your ex treats you while you’re communicating is imperative to understanding what part he wants you to play in his life.  Don’t let him take advantage of you just because you want him back.  Let him show that he still cares about you to a degree that he is still willing to talk to you about issues he has; much like he should have been doing before the breakup.
