Some are still thinking though, that playing golf by itself will keep you fit. On the contrary, if you are not physically fit to handle the demands of the game in the first place, you may be surprised how difficult the game will seem to you.

How many times have you or a fellow golfer got injured from playing golf? Do you remember having a sore lower back and shoulders, right after playing a round of golf? There are so many possible injuries that can happen to a golfer who has not been exercising prior to the game itself. Sometimes, if you are not fit for golf, even a few hours at the driving range may become unbearable for you.

This just proves the point that physical exercise is an important component for a successful game. Remember that golf is a physically demanding game. All your muscles and joints are actually being in use when you're playing, and if they are not strong enough to handle the force from swinging a golf club, then you are not really fit for golf.

Imagine swinging a 3 feet golf club to hit a ball up to 100 mph and yet keeping your body balanced. That is a difficult feat, unless your muscles and joints are flexible enough to do this. Even the simple act of putting can be physically demanding. How many times have you been at the driving range, practicing your put for a few minutes and before you know it, you'll start having pains on your lower back? This happens when your back muscles have not been exercised for a long time. You may not even be able to withstand the long walks that golf requires if your leg and thigh muscles are not strong enough.

Your arms and wrists should also be flexible enough, to handle a good swing. Simply put, golf requires muscular flexibility and strength. So make sure you are fit for golf by doing regular exercises that can help you develop muscular strength on your wrists, arms, lower back, legs and thighs.

If you had been out of shape lately, do not attempt to do an 18 hole round right away! You may not only get frustrated, you may even get hurt. Your self-esteem may be injured, as well, if you're the shortest hitter in your team.
