Authorities are searching for the driver of a BMW that crashed into a cyclist in an alley. Road rage can get the best of many on public roads. Following basic rules of the road can prevent unnecessary collisions and accidents.

An alleged road rage accident has Beverly Hills police searching for the driver of a white BMW who struck a bicycle rider then fled the scene. Authorities were able to get footage of the vehicle and are on the lookout for its driver.  

Lt. Lincoln Hoshino told reporters that surveillance video caught the BMW intentionally ramming the bicyclist until finally pinning him against a metal trash bin.

Per authorities the incident was a result of an April 3rd rush hour road-rage confrontation in which the bicyclist allegedly delivered a punched to the driver’s face. Then the driver threatened to kill the bicyclist and followed him into an alley and rammed the rider against the dirty garbage container.

Reports stated that the bike rider sustained non-life threatening injuries and now authorities are on the lookout for the luxury car driver on suspicion of attempted murder.

If you don’t want to be in a similar situation, feel free to follow these basic bike safety steps:

  1. Be aware of your surroundings. Look out for traffic and oncoming vehicles at all times – ride defensively but don’t injure others.    
  2. Make sure to wear a helmet on every
  3. Remember to wear bight clothes so motorists can see you better. For night riding wear reflective clothing. And make sure it is not loose fitting as it may get caught in the chain.
  4. Obey traffic laws and make sure that when you get to a stop sign to stop like if you were driving a vehicle.
  5. Prior to making turns make sure to signal others on the road. If you don’t know the appropriate hand signals, make sure you learn them.
  6. Be patient and stop before crossing an intersection, then look for any oncoming vehicles.
  7. Get on the right side of the road, don’t ride against traffic.
  8. Be aware of parked vehicles when riding on a public street. People inside those vehicles are usually cautions but they are unpredictable and can open their doors at an inopportune time and you will crash into the door and fly over your handlebars. If that happens, you may fall on the street and other cars that don’t have enough time to stop for you could hit you.
  9. When you encounter other riders make sure to get their attention to prevent an accident. And inform others on your cycling party.  
  10. Ride orderly and don’t surprise other people on the road with your erratic riding.
