Verona is the city of love,Verona Marathon Articles famous for Juliet’s balcony, where pairs of lovers make pilgrimage every year. Verona is a city rich in art and history, with its monuments and sites, which are well-known all over the world, like the Arena. Verona is a city with a strong wine and food tradition, and can attract many gourmets thanks to its typical products and wines. If all this is not enough, you must know that in February Verona is also a city of sport, thanks to the marathon that is held on the city’s streets.

The Verona marathon was held for the first time in 2001, but in few years it has achieved international fame and prestige: for the Verona Marathon 2010, which will take place on the 21st of February, about 5000 participants are expected, included not only agonists, but also amateurs, who take part in the marathon to spend a different day in an amusing and sporty atmosphere, in one of the most beautiful Italian cities. While athletes have the possibility to put themselves to the test taking part in the most difficult races, like the 42, 195 km marathon and the 21,097 Half Marathon, all the other participants can choose the alternative that best fit their capacities. Families, but also people who simply wish to run or take a walk through the streets of the city, can participate in the “Family run”, a non competitive route, while die-hard roller-skaters can choose the Roller Half Marathon, a 35 km route to be run with roller skates. Also disabled people can enjoy this event and put themselves to the test taking part in the Half Marathon Disabled.

If you still have some doubts about taking part in the marathon (in fact many marathons are held all over the world, some of which are much more famous than the Verona marathon), note that in a wonderful city like Verona a marathon can never be “only” a sporting event: the route of the marathon, indeed, includes some of the most beautiful spots of the city, and running in a setting like this cannot but improve your mood and consequently your performance. Moreover with the 8th edition of the marathon organisers have (positively) exaggerated: the last metres of the marathon will be run inside the arena. The monument, which is well-known all over the world also because it hosts outstanding music events and a very interesting opera season, is now transformed into the seat of an important sporting event. Try to imagine the entrance in the arena, after kilometres of effort and sweat: marathoners, i.e. the fighters of the day, as if they were contemporary gladiators enjoy their triumphal entry into a very fascinating setting, which can work as an encouragement to end the race in the best possible way. Also for this reason the Verona marathon is expected to be one of the most appreciated of all the Italian marathons that will take place throughout the year.
