It’s common knowledge that Croatia is blessed with an extraordinarily beautiful coastline. While none of us at Prestige Holidays would turn up the chance of a week of Adriatic island-hopping,Unearth the Captivating Interior of Croatia Articles should you be interested in something a little different you’ll quickly find inland Croatia has plenty to offer. From the dual personalities of Zagreb, to the gastronomic delights of Brtonigla, to the captivating Plitvice Lakes, history, culture and nature abound. Book yourself into one of our Croatia resorts today and find out exactly what we mean.

Embrace the Coming of Autumn at the Plitvice Lakes

With the arrival of autumn, the Plitvice Lakes National Park really comes into its own. Visitor numbers start to drop off, and the turning of the seasons creates a spectacular display of autumn colour which contrasts vividly with the deep blues and greens of the 16 lakes. Take as many photos as you like, but above all savour being in such a wondrous setting – set aside at least two days to visit from one of our Croatia resorts.

While it’s nearly impossible to pick a favourite spot in this paradise of woodland and waterfalls, there’s a special place in my heart for the "Big Waterfall" (Veliki Slap). Find yourself a perch on the lookout that overlooks this 70-metre waterfall and prepare to be swept away (metaphorically, of course).

Traverse Centuries of History in Zagreb

Zagreb’s dual personality makes for a memorable visit. Immerse yourself in the Upper Town’s medieval ambience as you wander through the central square, Trg Bana Jelacica, and open-air markets. As you meditate on the past, you’ll be brought to the thirteenth-century Zagreb Cathedral, replete with dreamy Gothic spires.

The modern Lower Town, with its attractive streets and parks, is no less affecting – particularly the Museum of Broken Relationships, which is likely to have you reaching for the tissues.

Eat, Drink and be Merry in Brtonigla

The rural region of Brtonigla boasts charming landscapes and a panoply of distinctive delicacies. Oenophiles take note: vineyards flourish here, and the region’s catchphrase of "4 Soils, 4 Wines" is more than a marketing ploy.

To make the most of your time we can organise a hire car to help you get here from any of our Croatia resorts. There are few things more pleasurable than wending your way through the countryside and making a detour or two to an agriturismi to feast on food and each of the four Malvasias wines straight from source. Make sure to leave room for some wood-fired specialities as well, particularly the boškarin.
