The thought provoking,Frank M. Alba: Healing Trauma through Art Articles compelling (and sometimes somewhat controversial) acrylic paintings of American artist Frank M. Alba are as imaginative in scope as they are laden with subconscious meaning. As a self-taught artist, Alba has developed an artistic style that’s completely unique and seamlessly transforms ordinary subjects into something quite extraordinary and profound. Bold colors, subtle textures, and figurative forms that border on the surreal combine to create visceral images that intrigue the eye while stirring up deep human emotions in the viewer.

Much of Alba’s inspiration comes from a desire to not only capture but instill meaning via metaphor to all the various traumas that humans inevitably experience as they move through life, particularly in the childhood years. For the artist, the art becomes both a symbol of that trauma and a vehicle through which healing can ultimately be realized. As Alba explains, in the end “my paintings represent subconsciously the moments that impact one’s life.”

Frank M. Alba currently lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts.

About the Exhibition

Sensorial Realities

Agora Gallery's new group exhibition Sensorial Realities offers nine different voyages into new and challenging worlds. Among the paintings, mixed-media works, ceramics, and sculptures included, there are stimulating explorations of landscape, narrative, abstraction, and portraiture. One painter creates outdoor scenes out of a jungle of thick, unbroken brushstrokes that pulse with the loud colors of summer in bloom. Another builds quietly intense psychological scenes out of isolated figures. A third toggles between sensual realism and an abstraction that depends simply on the perspective zooming in and out. With such thoughtful technical experimentation and flawless execution, Sensorial Realities showcases artists operating at their smartest and most provocative level.
