Feeling lonely is one of the worst feelings in the world. While most of us try hard to always have friends and family around to keep us company, it may not always be possible for them to be nearby. If you are currently feeling lonely, know that you’re not alone and many people share your same feeling. Being active and seeking out new friendships is a great way to fight your loneliness.
If you have all you can do to avoid feeling lonely, but still truly miss your family, here are three things you can do to convince them to visit you more often:
1. See Them Once in a While- Having your family members always make the trip to come see you can make them feel like they always have to do the heavy lifting. Show them that you are willing to share the travel load by making the trip to see them once in a while. Think of it as “meeting them halfway.” This shows how much you sincerely want to see them, and gives them greater reason to reciprocate the action and come see you.
2. Offer a Place to Stay- Traveling can be rough when you have to sleep in a hotel and wash your laundry at a Laundromat. Letting your family know that they can stay with you might make the decision to come see you easier. You should be willing to feed them too while they come and stay with you. There’s nothing like a home cooked meal and reminding them of your famous dinners could be enough to get them packing.
3. Plan Some Events- Let your family members know all about the fun sights and attractions that they can partake of if they come and visit. For example if you lived in California you might remind your family of the beach, Disneyland, and professional sporting arenas. Let them know that you’d be happy to arrange plans to go see their favorite attraction if they came to visit. More often than not your family will be more than happy to come visit you and share these wonderful memories. Be sure to remember which things they like the most so that you can do them again the next time that they come to see you.
Getting your family members to come and visit you more often is all about creative a positive experience when they do see you. You want them to think of your home as not only a place that they can vacation from the stress of their daily lives but also a place that they can go to, to have fun.
