To prepare the best warm wine for this winter, we have listed some of the most amazing cocktail recipes that you can make yourself. 

 

Mulled wine cocktail – 

 

This is perhaps the perfect party drink. The best thing is that they can be prepared well ahead, and can be stored in the fridge, to serve chilled when the guests arrive. Or you can also opt to serve it hot as a traditional winter warmer.

 

Ingredients used - 

 

  • 100g/4oz light muscovado sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1-star anise
  • 150ml water
  • 1 lemon
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 clementines
  • 750ml/ 1¼pint bottle light red wine, such as Beaujolais
  • 150ml Cointreau
  • Twist of orange zest and star anise, to serve

 

Preparation - 

 

  • Put the muscovado sugar in a pan with a cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and 150ml water. Boil it slowly by stirring the sugar to dissolve.
  • After simmering for 2 minutes, pour it into a large jug and leave it to cool down. Add thinly sliced lemon and clementines to it, with 150ml Cointreau and a 750ml bottle light red wine. 
  • Stir it well and then cover it. Leave it to chill for 2 hrs or overnight. Serve chilled or with ice and a twist of orange zest and star anise. 
  • To serve it in the traditional warm mulled wine way, do not chill it and simply warm. Avoid boiling it and serve in heatproof glasses.

 

Swedish Glogg - 

 

This traditional Scandinavian red mulled wine tastes best when served very hot, and is a perfect choice to be enjoyed in chilling winters.

 

Ingredients used -

 

  • 3/4 l, dry Red Wine
  • 1 tsp, pods Cardamom
  • 1 Cinnamon
  • 7 cloves
  • 100 g raisins
  • 100 g, blanched almonds
  • 12 cubes of sugar
  • 250 ml brandy

 

Preparation - 

 

  • Pour red wine into a pan and add cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves to it. Heat it slowly until the wine starts boiling. 
  • Lower the heat and add raisins and almonds to the wine. Allow it to infuse on low heat for 15 minutes. Make sure that it does not boil.
  • Remove the cinnamon stick, cloves, and cardamom, and add sugar cubes.
  • Take a small pan and put the sugar cubes into it. Add brandy over them and then light it with a long match to let the sugar slowly. 
  • Pour it into the mulled wine and then pour the Glogg into a punch glass. Leave the raisins and almonds in it and serve immediately.

 

Red wine hot chocolate -

 

This rich and luxurious drink is meant for quiet nights at home but is also special enough to be served to your guests at dinner parties. The perfect solution to warm up your bones, this fruity red wine plays with the delicately bitter dark chocolate and caramel notes.

 

Ingredients used - 

 

  • 5 ounces dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups fruity red wine (Merlot, Shiraz, or Zinfandel)
  • 1 quart (4 cups) whole milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • Cinnamon sticks and additional cocoa powder, for serving (optional)

 

Preparation - 

 

  • Take a large saucepan and whisk the chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, and cinnamon in it. Add milk to it and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Whisk the mixture occasionally for 5 minutes, until it is smooth and hot. Add the salt to it and stir.
  • Remove it from the heat and slowly add the wine. Pour it into eight small glasses or mugs to serve.
  • For garnishing, add a cinnamon stick and dust it with cocoa powder and serve immediately.
