Whether you are unhappy with your breast size,The Many Misconceptions of Breast Augmentation Surgery Articles or have had an illness, such as cancer, where life saving surgery changed your breast shape, there are some things that you need to know before your breast augmentation surgery. There are many misconceptions about the surgery that need to be clarified before any surgery should be undertaken.

The first misconception is that the average person will be able to tell that you have had implant surgery. If the average person can see that you have had breast surgery then it was done improperly and the implants were either too large for your size, implanted too high on the chest, not symmetrical, or in front of the muscle instead of behind it. A properly performed procedure will make you appear as natural as possible and a good surgeon will make sure it is done correctly.

Another misconception is that the implants need to be replaced within 10 years of having them put in. This is only true if a problem occurs. There are many patients who have had breast augmentation surgery over 20 years ago and their breasts still look natural. The most common problem with the implants is occasional leaking and if this happens the implant would need to be removed. They would also need to be replaced if your breasts ever appear asymmetrical or are positioned improperly.

Thirdly, there is a belief that you will have to change your everyday activities if you have implants. The only time that you will need to consider changing your activity is during the recovery time which will depend on the extent of the surgery. Once you are fully healed, all of your regular activities can be resumed, including kick boxing and skiing. The only thing it may hinder is your swimming competition as the implants do add some bulk to the body.

A fourth misconception is that droopy breasts can be corrected with larger implants. Breast augmentation surgery will only increase the breast size, not correct the nipple placement. If you want your breasts to be more attractive over all you will need additional procedures done to correct the nipple placement and these extra procedures will depend on how droopy they are. Sometimes, just a breast lift by itself will solve the drooping problem and give you a more attractive silhouette.
Finally, there is a common complaint that the implants don't feel soft enough.

Unfortunately, there are no implants that will match natural breasts perfectly in feel, but most are a great substitute for the real thing. This firm feeling is most often caused by scar tissue build up which can be prevented by using implants that have some texture, making sure that the surgeon places them under the muscle, and using implants that are sized properly for your body.

If you are considering having breast augmentation surgery performed make sure that you check with your surgeon to make sure that he is experienced in the surgery that you desire and that he is able to clear up any misconceptions that may be in your mind.
