How to Have a Good Day
Is it Possible?
Each of us would love to have a good day as often as possible. Life may be pressing in on us: not-so-rewarding relationships, stresses at work, financial issues – you know the story and you can fill in the blanks with your own version. What many may not be so aware of is that you can have a good day in spite of your circumstances.
Just what is a Good Day?
First of all, how would you define a good day? I think most people would say that feeling happy is a good way to describe a good day. Others might say the feeling of accomplishment they get when completing a task would make their day. Pleasant surroundings are important to some. Whatever the impetus for the feeling, it comes down to being satisfied with life. Some people are this way naturally, others are not so fortunate.
Steps to Having a Good Day
Try the following exercises daily to overcome the “yech,” and move toward “Yes!”
1. Wake up with God –
Spend a few moments, upon waking, to consider the goodness and nature of God. Thank Him for the countless blessings He has given you.
2. Expect a Good Day –
As you go about your morning routine, before you leave home, determine that nothing is going to get you down today. Imagine your day going well – see it in your mind.
3. Give the Gift of Goodness to Others –
Greet everyone you meet with a smile. Speak to them and wish them a good day. Find reasons to like people. Do specific acts of kindness to others. Help someone when they need help, before they ask for it. Tell people you like them. Have and express an open heart to others.
4. Handle Each Issue that Arises –
You can certainly bank on it that issues will pop up. You are capable of meeting every one of them. Use these three techniques: (1) control your emotions – you must use your mind to determine a solution - anger, fear, stress and frustration will not resolve the issue, only your mind and action will; (2) pray about the situation and then take the problem apart, piece by piece; (3) work on the parts you can control.
5. Find Time to Meet with God –
If you’re a Bible student, do some research and note the number of times that Jesus is alone to talk with his Father. Then follow the same example. Set aside time each day to pray, meditate, visit, and share your life with God. Get to know God by getting to know Jesus. Learn that He is a compassionate, caring Father who wants the best for His children.
6. Go to Sleep with God –
Pray for peace and safety over all in your household. Thank Him for creating such a beautiful day and count your blessings, name them one by one.
