Head protection does not end at buying a certain helmet. For safety reasons and for comfort,Motorcycle Helmet-Tips on How to Fit Articles it is important to buy a proper fitting helmet. Before purchasing test the fitting of the helmet first. The following are ways on how to fit the helmet:

  • A helmet that fits you perfectly feels snug and solid but not uncomfortable when you put it on. Once the helmet is loose, it can come off or twist around your head which can be distracting or even dangerous. Wind can blow it from underneath and force it up; this will result to strained neck. While a very tight helmet will pinch your ears and press against your forehead that can cause headaches.
  • It requires some force to put on a proper helmet. It may seem tight but it will only slide over your head because of the inside padding. A helmet that slides easily will move while riding because of the impact of air.
  • All of its interior padding should make solid contact with your whole head. It cannot protect you adequately if it only makes contact on the top of your head.
  • Full-face helmet should hold your cheeks and jaw firmly.
  • Your helmet should fit your head with even pressure throughout its use. It should not press uncomfortably against your temples, forehead or cheeks.
  • A helmet that fits properly creates a seal around your ears and will block wind noise to protect your hearing but voices and car horns are still audible.
  • Your nose and chin should not touch the faceshield.
  • A faceshield should not distort your view at any point. Your eyes should be approximately in the center, with the top edge of the liner padding just above the eyebrows.

Be patient in choosing. Do not hesitate to try other motorcycle helmets when the one you are testing do not satisfy the requirements. After all, head is the most vulnerable part of the body that should be protected even from bumps.
