Acrylic Beads

These are the most prolific type available. The term applies to all those beads that are prepared from plastic, resin, polymers and synthetic material. The reason for their popularity springs from the light weight suitable for wearing and for being the least expensive. The most in demand are pony and bicones in various colours and synthetic material. Resin beads are also plastic but usually have a mix of fabric or other material to give them the light effect. There are Lucite beads that are made from an especially hard plastic with glass like sheen.

A variety of crystal beads like Swarovski bicones are very famous for making jewelry. These are originally from the Austria. The true Swarovski crystal can refract the light in clear rainbow colours. These are high quality beads made of glass through mostly blown or drawn process

Glass beads

These beads are called the wound, drawn, molded, lamp work, dichroic, furnace glass, lead crystal and blown glass beads. These are quite famous in the jewelry industry. The glass beads are known for the resplendent colours, the smooth surface the sheen and shine of the beads. These beads are a little more expensive than the acrylic beads because the process of making glass beads of different types is highly labour intensive. The beads of glass are made from machinery also but the ones prepared by famous craftsmen still carry a lot of weight in the jewelry making world. The glass beads made in Czech Republic called pressed variety and fire polished are very famous for their quality.

Metal Beads

These are prepared with the use of die-cast. The metal beads can be purchased in different designs and shapes. These have different colours also. This makes the metal beads more durable, less expensive and colourful as well. These beads are called spacer beads also because these are used with other kind of beads to give the finished item a unique look.

Seed Beads

Seed beads are also famous for making jewelry. Japanese seed beads are considered better than the Chinese ones. The Czech seeds are not considered quality beads because of the poor workman ship of these beads. Round Bugle beads, hexagonal, cuboid and square seed beads from Japan and china are available in the market.

 

 

Wooden beads 

These beads are in demand for specially made jewelry that has a kind of ethnic touch to it.  These are also available in different shapes, sizes and colours. Wooden beads are not easy to make but once they are prepared with sanding, drilling and painting these become remarkably eye catching for the connoisseurs of good  jewelry.
