The limitations become clearer when you want to turn that experiment into a routine. Repeated trips for ice, preparation time and fluctuating temperatures introduce friction every time you want to plunge.
A refrigerated ice bath addresses those practical problems by making controlled cold water readily available. That doesn't mean you need to plunge colder or for longer. In many ways, the opposite approach makes more sense.
Forget about winning a battle against the cold. Find a temperature, duration, and schedule you can manage safely and consistently. When it comes to building a cold-plunge habit that lasts, the best setup isn't necessarily the most extreme one. It's the one you'll actually use.
